Group Work
Wednesday, January 23rd, 2008I have to admit, when I first saw that we were going to be using things like Wiki and Blogs and other forms of technology, I got a little intimidated by the whole situation. These were things that I was very unfamiliar withand did not feel comfortable trying to grasp. I must say that I totally misjudged the whole situation, because Wiki is a great way of collaborating with my fellow students, and it is extremely simple to use. Wiki (Wiki Scratch!!!, sorry I had to do that!) has made this course a lot easier, much because it gives us feedback much quicker than e-mail. It is nice to get on there and see what everybody else has posted and add our thoughts to the same page so that everyone can build on each others thoughts in a fast manner. Overall, Wiki made it very easy to collaborate.
Group work is very important in a writing class because it gets everybody’s thoughts moving. It gets a person away from having a “one track mind” and allows for us to share ideas about a certain topic so that we can see things in many ways instead of just one. It is also very important because it allows for others to find mistakes in our work and opens up room for suggestion and improvement.
I believe that the main objective of assigning group work is just that, to help us improve by getting other peoples opinions. It is very easy to overlook our own mistakes, but when somebody else tells us our mistakes they are much easier to correct. Also generating new ideas is very important in group work.
The rewards of group work far outweigh those of the challenges. The reward in the end is being an overall better writer. The challenges are that sometimes we struggle or reach to find different ideas and that can sometimes be harmful instead of helpful.
